Outwoods Primary School

Our Curriculum Intent Statement:

At Outwoods Primary School we celebrate the uniqueness of all children.  We celebrate their ability to be creative and challenged.  We celebrate and welcome their diversity, cultures and talents. Our curriculum design recognise and build on children’s prior knowledge and first hand experiences, allowing the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and show initiative while becoming creative and critical thinkers. We have high expectations and challenge them to be confident, happy and reach their aspirations. The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values with a vision to prepare them for life beyond primary school.

To help them achieve this, we ensure that our curriculum provides the knowledge and skills through an active approach to learning to achieve independence. At Outwoods Primary School we provide an extensive curriculum that allows opportunities to explore, practise and consolidate knowledge. We believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time, where there are no limits to curiosity or thirst for experiences therefore continually provide enrichment opportunities for the children to engage learning and develop life skills they have a passion about.   We use our Outwoods values to encourage children to be positive and have a growth mind-set which is reflective and promotes responsibility for success.  We teach our curriculum according to the individual needs of our children, promoting rich vocabulary, extending knowledge and wherever possible relate this to their immediate locality

Community is an integral part of our school and through our curriculum we invite families and visitors to our school to share experiences and facilitate the learning of new skills.  We endeavour that children leave Outwoods with a love of learning allowing them to take with them the confidence and skills to make decisions, self-evaluate and steer their learning journey to meet their own needs making them lifelong learners.
